Barry Town United vs Bala Town | JD Cymru Premier Preview

Jenner Park hosts JD Cymru Premier football for the first time this season as Bala Town visit South Wales today, live on Sgorio (kick-off 5:15pm).

Gavin Chesterfield felt hard done as he saw his side lose 2-1 at Aberystwyth Town last weekend, conceding a 90th-minute free-kick scored by Mathew Jones at Park Avenue. Marcus Day had put Barry ahead after 23 minutes before Sam Phillips equalised just before halftime, with both goalkeepers making a number of good saves in an evenly-matched game.

The travelling support was fantastic in West Wales and we are now looking forward to welcoming fans back to Jenner Park for a Cymru Premier fixture for the first time since February 2020.

Bala began their league campaign with a 2-2 draw at home to Penybont last weekend. Summer signing and former Welsh international Dave Edwards got on the scoresheet so will be one to lookout for today, but Chris Venables was sent off late on so will not be available for Colin Caton to select.

The Lakesiders’ visit to Jenner Park in phase one last season ended in an emphatic 6-2 win for Barry, one of our best performances of the campaign. Kayne McLaggon and Evan Press both netted twice, while Chris Hugh and Curtis Hutson also got on the scoresheet on an entertaining afternoon.

Looking ahead to today’s game, Gavin Chesterfield said:

“We know Bala are a good team and have done very well in the league over a number of years. We’ve had a number of good games against them – and some not so good! But it’s the type of game we need to get up for now. We’ll lick our wounds from last weekend, focus on the positives and give it our all.”

You can purchase tickets for this afternoon’s game online by clicking here, while they will also be available to buy on the gate. Prices as follows: £8 for adults, £6 for students and senior citizens, £5 for 3-16 year olds.
