It is a second home game in a row to start the 2020/21 JD Cymru Premier season for Barry Town United, as Caernarfon Town visit Jenner Park this afternoon (kick-off 2:30pm).
The New Saints came to South Wales last weekend and emerged 3-0 victors, with all the goals coming in the second half following a bright first period from Barry.
Caernarfon were also at home a week ago, drawing 1-1 with Penybont. They were then in action again in midweek, winning 3-2 away at Newtown. The Cofis twice trailed at Latham Park, but Noah Edwards’ goal in the 79th minute secured all three points. It means that Huw Griffiths’ side begin this afternoon’s game second in the table, only behind leaders Aberystwyth Town (who have played one game more) on goals scored.
Both of the Jenner Park games between Barry and Caernarfon last season ended level – a 0-0 stalemate in phase one followed by a 1-1 draw in phase two when Mo Touray’s opener was quickly cancelled out by Darren Thomas. An injury-ravaged Barry side lost 4-1 away from home in phase one, but didn’t get the chance to make amends at the Oval due to the season being cut short because of the coronavirus pandemic. The points-per-game model saw the Cofis finish the campaign in fifth, one place below Barry.
Looking ahead to the game, Gavin Chesterfield said:
“Whilst we were disappointed with the result last week there was much to like about our performance; particularly in the first half. It’s important we respond with another strong performance and hopefully a result this week. Caernarfon are a good, honest and hard-working bunch of lads who have players that carry a threat but we feel that we are getting stronger and that new relationships and understandings are developing with each session.”
Due to a Welsh Government and FAW ruling, games must currently be played behind-closed-doors until stated otherwise. Your support will be hugely missed at Jenner Park, but you will be able to follow this afternoon’s fixture through live updates on our Twitter page.
