Barry Town United vs Carmarthen Town | JD Cymru Premier Preview

Barry Town United finish phase one of the JD Cymru Premier season with a home fixture against Carmarthen Town today (kick-off 5:15pm).

Town appeared to have earned a hard-fought 0-0 draw in terrible weather conditions away to Connah’s Quay Nomads last weekend, but Andy Morrison’s side won the game late on through goals from Jamie Insall and Declan Poole. The result leaves Barry in fourth position going into today’s fixture.

Meanwhile, it’s been a difficult campaign for Carmarthen so far, as they currently sit in 11th position with just two wins in 21 games. However Kristian O’Leary’s men are currently on a three-match unbeaten run, having drawn against Airbus and Penybont in their last two games following a 3-2 win over the latter on Boxing Day. Luke Bowen is very much the man in-form for the Old Gold after scoring five goals in those three matches.

A superb long range strike from Clayton Green proved to be the difference between Barry and Carmarthen in the first meeting between the two sides this season as we claimed a 1-0 win at Richmond Park at the end of August. The result was our seventh win in a row against the Old Gold since our return to the top-flight in 2017.

Barry welcome back Kayne McLaggon to today’s squad following suspension, whilst new signing Theo Wharton has received international clearance and could make his debut. There’s good news for Jordan Cotterill and Jonathan Hood who are both back in training. Callum Sainty’s hip operation went well this week but he will miss the next few months recovering, with Keyon Reffell, Robbie Patten and Troy Greening also all sidelined through injury.

Tickets at Jenner Park today will cost £8 for adults, £5 for concessions and £3 for kids.
