Cardiff Met vs Barry Town United| Nathaniel MG Cup Semi-Final | Match Preview

We’re in Cup action this weekend as we travel to Cardiff Metropolitan University to contest the semi-final of the Nathaniel MG Cup.

After heartache in the Nathaniel MG Cup Final in 2017 at the hands of The New Saints, the semi-final on Saturday offers us the chance to setup another Cup Final and go one further. Indeed, left-back Chris Hugh acknowledged the importance of Saturday’s fixture in an interview this week, he said ‘winning some silverware now would be massive’ in a statement which clearly shows the intent of the club.

Historically, we have had some success in the league cup. Notably, in the late 1990s, we lifted the Cup on four consecutive occasions in what was a successful period for the Club.

We come into this game in good form, having been unbeaten in our last 6 games. Also, our skipper, Kayne Mclaggon, has been in scintillating form of late, scoring 10 goals in his last 8 games and thereby earning himself the JD Cymru Premier League Player of the Month award for October.

Our opponents find themselves in 11th position in the JD Cymru Premier League, 4 points behind the Town who sit in 8th. Nevertheless, the Archers have defeated us twice already this term, once in the Welsh Cup (3-0) and once in the League (1-0). However, our poor form against Met’ this season will only add to Gavin and the player’s motivation this weekend, who will be eager to get one over our rivals.

The match this Saturday will kick off at 14:30 at the Cyncoed Campus Stadium and, as always, your support would be much appreciated by all at the club. As Chris Hugh made clear earlier this week, ‘every player’ wants to feature in a cup final, so you can guarantee our boys will do everything they can this Saturday in an attempt to boost our hopes of winning Barry’s first league cup in over 20 years.
