Cardiff Met vs Barry Town United | Welsh Cup | Match Preview

After we progressed to the quarter final of the Nathaniel MG Cup on Tuesday night with a 3-0 win over Trefelin BGC, this Saturday we turn our attention to Cardiff Met away in the Third Round of The JD Welsh Cup.

Looking ahead to the match, Gavin Chesterfield noted that Cardiff Met like anywhere in our league  is a ‘tough place’ to go but also that The JD Welsh Cup is ‘a competition that we care deeply about and one that we want to go deep into’. Indeed, the winners of the national Cup secure a place in the qualifying rounds of the Europa Conference League.

Our opponents this weekend find themselves in 7th place in the JD Cymru Premier League, just 2 points behind us. The Archers have won, drawn and lost 2 of their opening six league games so far this term.  Last season, we faced Cardiff Met twice in the league and our opponents failed to pick up any points on either occasion as a 2-1 win away and a 1-0 win at home ensured we did the double.

We go into this game in good spirits despite suffering our first league defeat since the opening day of the season at the hands of The New Saints last weekend. Despite the loss, Gavin noted that there was ‘lots to like’ about our spirited performance at The Park Hall Stadium. On Tuesday night, another good performance ensured we secured a triumphant 3-0 victory against Trefelin BGC, a game which saw striker Nat Jarvis back in the goals with a brace.

Gavin and the players will be eager to progress to the fourth round of The JD Welsh Cup this Saturday and continue what has been a promising start to our 2021/22 campaign.
