The games keep coming thick and fast in the JD Cymru Premier Championship Conference as we travel to Connah’s Quay Nomads today (kick-off 5:15pm).
Our three-game winning run came to an end on Tuesday night, as The New Saints turned on the style at Jenner Park and claimed a 6-0 victory.
It was a clinical showing from Anthony Limbrick’s men and we will be keen to respond with an improved display today.
Reigning champions Connah’s Quay Nomads are locked in a battle for the title with TNS, only trailing the Oswestry side on goal difference.
The Nomads registered an emphatic victory of their own in midweek, as they beat Caernarfon Town 6-1 thanks to a stellar second half performance.
Andy Morrison’s side have now won 13 of their last 15 matches, with Penybont the only team to take points off them during that time.
Before that, the last time they dropped points was in a closely-fought 0-0 draw at Jenner Park in October. It was a game that showed we were able to compete with the league’s very best.
Our trip to Deeside in phase one was also a tight affair, as Jordan Cotterill gave us the lead early on but the Nomads battled back to win 3-1.
Speaking after Tuesday’s game, Gavin Chesterfield said:
“We’ll recover well, see how the boys respond and look forward to the challenge on Saturday. You’ll find out a lot about my team this week and my team will find out a lot about me as well. It’s certainly not nice shipping six goals at home and being that passive. But sport is there to challenge you and this is undoubtedly a challenge that we must rise to.”
Due to a Welsh Government and FAW ruling, games must currently be played behind-closed-doors until stated otherwise. Your support will be hugely missed at Deeside, but you will be able to follow this afternoon’s fixture through live updates on our Twitter page.
