Penybont vs Barry Town United | JD Cymru Premier Preview

It is a second consecutive away game in the JD Cymru Premier for Town this evening as we make the short trip to Penybont (kick-off 7:45pm).

Lassana Mendes scored the only goal of the game as we were beaten 1-0 by Bala Town on Saturday afternoon, but there was no lack of hunger or effort from the Barry team at Maes Tegid and a win seems only around the corner.

However, the weekend’s result does now leave us nine points behind Bala in third, meaning it is looking increasingly likely that we will compete in the end of season playoffs for European qualification.

The same fate seems to await Penybont, who moved into fourth spot on Saturday as they won 2-0 against Caernarfon Town.

Kostya Georgievsky opened the scoring for Bont in the first half, before Nathan Wood made the three points safe as he struck in second half stoppage time.

We of course only played Rhys Griffiths’s side at home a week ago, as a thrilling encounter ended 3-3.

Goals from Jamie Bird, Kayne McLaggon and David Cotterill put us 3-1 up at halftime, but Penybont fought back after the break and earned a 3-3 draw.

Kane Owen’s penalty was decisive in a 1-0 win for Bont on our visit to the SDM Glass Stadium earlier this season, but we have fonder memories of our short trip west in 2019/20 as a Jon Hood wonder goal secured a 2-1 victory on the opening day of the campaign.

Due to a Welsh Government and FAW ruling, games must currently be played behind-closed-doors until stated otherwise. Your support will be hugely missed at the SDM Glass Stadium, but you will be able to follow this evening’s fixture through live updates on our Twitter page.
