The JD Cymru Premier resumes tonight as Barry Town United travel to Park Hall to face The New Saints live on Sgorio (kick-off 8pm).
It has been a difficult start to phase two for the reigning champions, with defeats to Newtown and Connah’s Quay Nomads either side of a 1-1 draw with Bala Town leaving Scott Ruscoe’s side four points behind league leaders the Nomads. If they fail to win this evening, it would be the first time in 14 years that TNS will have gone four league games without a victory. However, they did return to winning ways in the JD Welsh Cup last weekend with a 6-1 win over Newtown, as four goals from Dean Ebbe saw them progress to the semi-finals.
Meanwhile, Barry’s last outing was a 1-1 draw with Caernarfon Town at Jenner Park a fortnight ago. Mo Touray capitalised on a defensive mistake to give us the lead just after the hour mark, but the Cofis equalised almost instantly when Darren Thomas scored from close range. It means that we go into tonight’s game in fourth place, seven points off Bala in third but with a game in hand.
The last meeting between Barry and TNS ended 4-1 to the Saints at Jenner Park in December, however Gavin Chesterfield’s side are unbeaten in their last two visits to Park Hall. Evan Press’ thunderbolt and some heroic defending secured a 1-0 victory in Oswestry earlier this season, whilst a 96th minute free-kick from Jonathan Hood rescued a 2-2 draw one year ago.
David Cotterill has unfortunately been ruled out on tonight’s game with a hamstring problem, whilst Clayton Green remains suspended after reaching the limit for number of yellow cards received. Callum Sainty and Troy Greening remain injured, but Robbie Patten, Jack Compton and Keyon Reffell all returned to the matchday squad against Caernarfon a fortnight ago and will hope to be involved again tonight.
Tickets at Park Hall for this game will cost £8 for adults, £4 for concessions and £1 for juniors.
