After 11 weeks of no competitive football, we are back in JD Cymru Premier action this afternoon as we travel to Cefn Druids (kick-off 2:30pm).
Our last game before the break was actually our home fixture against Druids, which we won 4-1 thanks to a brace from Kayne McLaggon, Jacob Wise’s own goal and a mesmerising run and finish from Sam Bowen.
It left us fourth in the Cymru Premier table, with our final six games of phase one all set to be played in the next four weeks.
We have made three new signings since we were last in action, and Lee Idzi, Rhys Kavanagh and Jamie Bird are all in contention for their debuts at The Rock this afternoon.
The hosts are struggling towards the wrong end of the table, with Newtown’s win over Penybont in midweek meaning that Druids slipped into the bottom two.
However the battle to avoid relegation from the Cymru Premier is ridiculously tight this year, so Bruno Lopes’s side will know that every point will be crucial in escaping trouble.
Druids have conceded the joint most goals in the league (37) and scored the second fewest (17) but did win their last match on home turf 4-1 against Haverfordwest County.
We narrowly lost 1-0 at The Rock last season, but supporters will have fonder memories of our trip to Wrexham in 2018/19 when we were 5-2 winners thanks to a hat-trick from Jordan Cotterill and a goal each from Kayne McLaggon and Mo Touray.
Looking ahead to today’s game, Gavin Chesterfield said:
“While we got the win over Cefn Druids in December, there are no easy games in this league at all. We know it will be a challenge but we go there with excitement and will give it our best to hopefully come out the other end with three points. The lads have been training hard over the last couple of weeks and they’re excited just as I am.”
Due to a Welsh Government and FAW ruling, games must currently be played behind-closed-doors until stated otherwise. Your support will be hugely missed The Rock, but you will be able to follow this afternoon’s fixture through live updates on our Twitter page.
