#Backinthehood | Barry Town sign Jon Hood

Barry Town United are delighted to announce the signing of Jonathan Hood.

Jon previously joined the club in 2018, spending 2 seasons in Barry colours; making 55 appearances before departing for Australia in 2020. After scoring on his debut against Aberystwyth, Jon went on to score a further 15 goals during his first stint at the club, including an extraordinary free-kick in the 97th minute to earn the Town a draw at The New Saints. Indeed, as Richie Phillips put it, Jon ‘does not do tap-ins’ and the winger became renowned as a scorer of sublime goals during his time at the club in the 2018/19 and 2019/20 seasons.

Jon expressed his delight at returning to The Town and outlined his ambitions going forward, he said:

‘It’s been a long time coming, as you know I’ve played at the club before so I know there’s a great bunch of boys, supporters and coaching staff at the club and I’m looking forward to working with Gav again.’

‘The only thing we can look at right now is securing a top six finish and then taking it one game at a time. I’m excited to get back with the boys again and try to be successful.’

The latest addition to the squad is confident he will bring ‘lots of positive energy’ and ‘goals and assists’.

Jon played an integral part in our success in his first season at Barry ensuring the club reached the qualifying stages of the Europa League where Jon went on to start both games against Cliftonville. Our new signing returns to the club with a wealth of experience, having made 83 appearances in the JD Cymru Premier League thus far, and will be eager to make an instant impact, just as he did during his first period at the club.

Gavin Chesterfield commented “Jon is an infectious character who I am delighted to welcome back to the club. He was hugely successful in his first stint with us; as a result of the experiences gained I feel he returns as a more mature player who is determined to make a big impact.”

Vote for your 2019-20 Edgar’s Gift Champagne Moment

It may not have finished in the way that anyone expected, but the 2019-20 season still produced many fantastic memories.

Now it’s your chance to vote for your Edgar’s Gift Champagne Moment from the campaign, from a shortlist created by Gavin Chesterfield.

The nominations are…

Jon Hood winning goal vs Penybont

The season got off to the perfect start as we came from behind to beat Penybont 2-1 away from home. Kayne McLaggon had earlier cancelled out Kane Owen’s penalty, before the winning goal was a trademark ‘tap-in’ from Jon Hood. The midfielder smashed home a sensational volley first time when the ball dropped to him on the edge of the box.

Evan Press winning goal vs TNS

We were still unbeaten by the time we visited TNS in late September, and Evan Press’s first goal for the club in the first half kept that run going. The teenager collected the ball on the edge of the box and hammered it into the back of the net. Some excellent and defending and goalkeeping kept the reigning champions at bay at the other end, and we came away with a 1-0 victory.

‘Luke Cooper’ equaliser vs TNS

We returned to Park Hall in March, and once again left with smiles on our faces. After trailing 2-0, Luke Cummings’s goal got us back in the game, before an equaliser came in injury time when a corner was delivered into the box. Luke Cooper ran away claiming it, but whether he got a touch is another matter! Nonetheless, it sparked wild scenes of celebration and proved to be our last goal of the campaign.
