Kayne McLaggon signs new Barry Town contract

Barry Town United are delighted to confirm that Kayne McLaggon has signed a new contract with the football club.

2021-22 will be Kayne’s fifth season at Jenner Park after joining in 2017 following our promotion back to the Welsh top flight. Since then, he has made 117 appearances and scored 56 goals.

A Barry boy, Kayne scored the club’s first goal in European competition since 2003 when he netted against NSI Runavik last summer. That kicked off another campaign in which he took home our golden boot, scoring 12 times in 2020-21. Gavin Chesterfield also named him as his manager’s player of the year at our end-of-season awards night earlier this month.

At 30 years old, Kayne is one of the most experienced players in our squad and captained the side of multiple occasions last season, emphasising the key role he plays in yellow and blue.

Gavin Chesterfield said: “Kayne has been a central part to our success in recent times. He’s a local lad, which means a lot to our supporters and provides an excellent example for children in the local area who can aspire to emulate what he has done and play for their hometown club and beyond.”

2020/21 Award Winners Announced!

An informal evening for players and staff was held on Friday 4 June, where our annual awards were handed out for 2020/21. Here are the winners…

Top Goalscorer: Kayne McLaggon

In his fourth season with his hometown club, Kayne was once again our go-to man for goals, with 12 to his name in total. From becoming our first goalscorer in Europe since 2003 to netting a brace in a 6-2 demolition of Bala, he expertly led the line throughout the campaign.

Edgar’s Gift Champagne Moment: Share a Smile campaign

While there were some memorable moments on the pitch this season, nothing made the club and the town more proud than the ‘Share a Smile’ campaign that took place around Christmas. An amazing £8,500 was raised in total to buy presents for children in the area, and this award is dedicated to Emily, Jess and Jane Barrett and all those who contributed towards the campaign.

Manager’s Young Player of the Season: Evan Press

Given his mature and commanding displays this season, it is easy to forget that Evan is still only 20 years old. He wins this award for the second year in a row as his development continues to go from strength to strength. We are sure a very successful career awaits.

Players’ Player of the Season: Evan Press

Chosen by his teammates, Evan has been a virtual ever present in our side this season, playing at both centre back and in midfield. He played in all 32 league games and our playoff fixture and chipped in with three goals. One of the most vocal out on the pitch, Evan has encouraged those around him and stepped up with some dominant performances himself.

Supporters’ Player of the Season: Evan Press

Evan’s displays have also cemented his place as a fan favourite this season as his committed and assertive style of play has endeared him to supporters. His dramatic last minute winning goal against Cardiff Met was a rare opportunity to celebrate with those fans who had set up camp just outside Cyncoed Campus.

Manager’s Player of the Season: Kayne McLaggon

As his goal statistics show, Kayne has been a vital part of the side again this season with his inspirational displays upfront. He has skippered the team on occasions too, emphasising the key role he plays in the dressing room.
