Marcus Day: “I just can’t wait to get going!”

Following confirmation of Marcus Day’s arrival at Jenner Park, we caught up with the winger to get his thoughts on the move.

Hi Marcus, welcome to Barry Town. How pleased are you to have got the move done?

“I’m delighted. It’s a good club, there’s a really good atmosphere around the place and I just can’t wait to get going!”

You played against us for Bristol Manor Farm a couple of weeks ago, what was it that attracted you to the club?

“It was a good game and a tough test and I really enjoyed playing against Barry. I liked the way you guys played football and thought that it would really suit me. I then spoke to Gav and he was very keen to help me continue to develop and give me opportunities, and for a young player like me that’s all that really matters.”

You’ve also been training with the squad for the last week or so and played in the friendly over Undy at the weekend. How did you find that?

“Really good. It was very hot at the weekend which was a tough test and I played right-back which isn’t my natural position, but I really enjoyed it. It was great to be involved and get a taste of what the club is like.”

Looking at your career so far, you started out in Bristol City’s academy. How did you find that as a starting platform?

“Yeah, brilliant. I was there from the age of 13, so I really learnt the philosophy of the club as I grew up and found out what it takes to be a footballer.”

You’ve spent the last year at Bristol Manor Farm. How did you find that?

“For a young player like me, all you need is minutes in men’s football to learn and get better, and that’s exactly what I did last year at Bristol Manor Farm. I feel I developed as a player and enjoyed my time there.”

For fans who might not know too much about you, what sort of player are you and what do you hope to bring to the team?

“I would say I’m a clever, jinky player. I like to get on the ball, make things happen and hopefully get goals and assists.”

Finally do you have any message for the fans?

“I’m glad to be here and can’t wait to get started!”

#MarcTheDay | Barry Town sign Marcus Day

Barry Town United are pleased to announce the signing of winger Marcus Day from Bristol Manor Farm, subject to international clearance.

Day began his career in the academy of hometown club Bristol City at the age of 13, rising up through the ranks to star for the club’s Under-23 side and also enjoying a spell on loan at local non-league outfit Paulton Rovers.

In pursuit of first team football, he departed Ashton Gate last summer and signed for Bristol Manor Farm in the Southern League Division One South, quickly becoming a popular player at The Creek.

The 20-year-old stood out in our 1-0 friendly win over Bristol Manor Farm earlier this month, and he has since been training with Gavin Chesterfield’s squad and featured in our 4-1 victory over Undy Athletic last weekend when he showed his versatility by playing out of position at right-back.

Now he has agreed a deal to become a Barry player and test himself in the Cymru Premier for the first time.

Gavin Chesterfield said: “Marcus comes with a good pedigree and is an exciting wide man who really impressed in our friendly against Bristol Manor Farm. In that regard I would like to thank Bristol Manor Farm for the class they have shown in dealing with this transfer and wish them the very best for the season ahead.

“Marcus is a young player with a lot of promise. He is a tricky winger who will bring much to our style of play. He’s integrated well into the team over the past week and we are excited to see him develop further.”
